The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks will head out to face off against the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Archbishop McCarthy took a 35-point defeat the last time they faced off against American Heritage, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mavericks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Patriots on Friday, sneaking past 13-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mavericks have posted since November 1, 2024.

Archbishop McCarthy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Damien Grant led the charge by rushing for 110 yards and one touchdown. The Mavericks are undefeated when Grant posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. Robert Kerns helped out on the ground, rushing for 89 yards and a rushing touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Archbishop McCarthy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 262 rushing yards. They are a perfect 5-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Archbishop McCarthy's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Maikel Suarez, Samuel Boatwright, and Cole Ivey, who each picked up one sack apiece. Suarez was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making six total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy entered their tilt with Saint Andrew's on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Scots 16-14.
Calvary Christian Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Santi Fuentes and Noah Johnson. Calvary Christian Academy received some extra help from Michael McDuffie, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Archbishop McCarthy's record is now 6-2. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their record now sits at 7-1.
Archbishop McCarthy came out on top in a nail-biter against Calvary Christian Academy when the teams last played back in October of 2024, sneaking past 31-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
