Shelbyville gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Greensburg Pirates 36-14. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Golden Bears as it put an end to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Donavon Martin was a one-man wrecking crew for Shelbyville as he rushed for 225 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Martin's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Shelbyville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 236 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greensburg only rushed for 85.
Although Greensburg took the loss, they still got scores from Bryson Abplanalp and Austin Cruz.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shelbyville will face off against Rushville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
