Football Recap: Seward Starts Season with Loss at Home

Seward unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Gretna East Griffins by a score of 24-21 on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bluejays came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Griffins are ranked 90th).

Gretna East's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Sams, who rushed for 76 yards and one touchdown. Jaxon Godfrey was in the mix too, providing the Griffins with one TD.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Seward will head out to square off against Waverly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gretna East, they will venture away from home to face off against Bennington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
