Basketball Game Preview: New Summerfield Hornets vs. Overton Mustangs

The New Summerfield Hornets will head out on the road to take on the Overton Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Summerfield has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 7.

Last Friday, New Summerfield came up short against Carlisle and fell 51-39.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Overton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 71-31 victory over Cushing. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 20 points or more this season.

Overton's win came from a few key players New Summerfield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jayden Edwards, who went 12 for 17 on his way to 26 points and three steals. Those 26 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Hall, who went 5 of 10 en route to 12 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Overton is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.2 points per game. As for New Summerfield, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

New Summerfield took a serious blow against Overton in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 71-31. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point New Summerfield was down 40-19.
