Football Recap: Coudersport Falcons vs. Smethport Hubbers
Coudersport was the 46-28 winner over Smethport when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Falcons were beaten by the Hubbers 44-14 on Friday. The Falcons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-14.
Despite the loss, Coudersport still got an impressive performance from Caleb Wonderly, who rushed for 73 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries, and also picked up 32 receiving yards. Wonderly got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 59 yards.
Jonah Ganoe was his usual excellent self, rushing for 245 yards and four scores while picking up 12.9 yards per carry for Smethport. Ganoe is becoming a predictor of the Hubbers' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jude Kisko, who rushed for 126 yards while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
Coudersport is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6. As for Smethport, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coudersport will take on Kane at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Smethport, they will face off against Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley's defense has only allowed nine points per game this season, so Smethport's offense will have their work cut out for them.
