Recap: Oroville Tigers vs. Corning Cardinals
This season hasn't been kind to The Oroville Tigers, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 49-13 loss at the hands of Corning. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oroville in their matchups with Corning: they've now lost five in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Corning to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kanon Gregorio, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Another player making a difference was Geovanni Gonzalez, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Oroville's defeat was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 1-6 Durham and 2-8 Lindhurst (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 40.1% over those games). As for Corning, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oroville will challenge Paradise at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Paradise is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Corning, they will head out on the road to face off against Orland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Orland will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
