Volleyball Recap: Sophia Olson Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Sandy Creek

Starr's Mill hadn't done well against Sandy Creek recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers skirted past the Patriots 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Starr's Mill who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 24-26, 15-6.

Starr's Mill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sophia Olson led the charge by getting 15 digs and three assists. That's the most digs Olson has posted over her last five matches. Hazel Foppe was another key player, getting eight digs and two aces.

Sandy Creek's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sarai Stephens, who had 17 assists and ten digs, and Kendall Davidson, who had 12 digs and two assists.

Starr's Mill now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Sandy Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Starr's Mill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-1 defeat against Landmark Christian on the 21st. As for Sandy Creek, they will challenge Alpharetta at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
