Basketball Recap: Ventura Comes Up Short

If Ventura was feeling good fresh off their 83-45 takedown of Buena last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ventura Cougars took a 67-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dos Pueblos Chargers on Wednesday. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chargers earlier this season, when they won 65-53.

Loss or not, Ventura got some senior leadership from Finn Fancher and Roman Chavarria. Fancher went 9 for 20 on his way to 22 points and seven boards, while Chavarria went 8 of 10 en route to 18 points and four steals. That's the most points Chavarria has posted since back in November of 2024. Harper Martinez was another key player, putting up six points and three blocks.

Ventura has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-16 record this season. As for Dos Pueblos, the win got them back to even at 14-14.

As of now, neither Ventura nor Dos Pueblos have any future games scheduled.
