Football Game Preview: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. Spring Valley Vikings

The Lugoff-Elgin Demons will take on the Spring Valley Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lugoff-Elgin has given up an average of 29.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Lugoff-Elgin was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 34-28 to Westwood. The Demons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Lugoff-Elgin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zach Williams rushed for 68 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 257 yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Eric Richardson, who picked up 83 receiving yards and one score.

Lugoff-Elgin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Richardson. Pervis Walker was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making ten total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Spring Valley fell victim to Westwood and their airtight defense two weeks ago. They had to suffer through a 31-0 loss at the hands of the Redhawks.

Even if they lost, Spring Valley's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Westwood's QB won't forget Dylan Redden anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Lugoff-Elgin now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Spring Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Everything came up roses for Lugoff-Elgin against Spring Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 41-10 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Vikings' Zion Bennett, who rushed for 143 yards, and also picked up 64 receiving yards and one TD. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Demons still be able to contain Bennett? There's only one way to find out.
