Football Recap: El Modena's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

El Modena had won two straight games and Ethan Sorenson did his part to make it three on Friday. The Vanguards came out on top against the Western Pioneers by a score of 28-21 thanks in part to Sorenson, who rushed for 92 yards and four TDs, and also threw for 109 yards on eight of 20 attempts. El Modena is undefeated when Sorenson posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise.

One reason for the win was El Modena's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Lincoln Irwin and Mason Romo, who racked up all four sacks between them.

When it comes to explaining why Western lost, don't look at Skylar Lendsey. Despite the final result, he rushed for 115 yards on only eight carries, and also picked up 31 receiving yards. Lendsey's longest rush was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

El Modena now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Western, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Looking ahead, El Modena will head out to square off against Tustin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tillers' defense has only allowed 12.9 points per game this season, so the Vanguards' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Western, they will host Cypress at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers will be up against the Centurions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.14 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
