Basketball Recap: Herrin Beats Sesser-Valier for Their Third Straight Win

Herrin won the last time they faced Sesser-Valier and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Herrin Tigers came out on top against the Sesser-Valier Red Devils by a score of 50-39. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Red Devils are ranked 489th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Herrin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kyrese Lukens out in front who went 5 of 10 en route to 15 points and four steals. That's the most steals Lukens has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madox Billingsley, who posted 13 points.

The win was the third in a row for Herrin, bringing their record for this year to 16-3. As for Sesser-Valier, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Herrin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-67 defeat against Meridian on the 24th. As for Sesser-Valier, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-67 loss against Vandalia on the 23rd.
