Basketball Recap: Rockledge Takes a Loss

If Rockledge was riding high fresh off their 43-23 takedown of Merritt Island last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rockledge Raiders took a blow against the Cocoa Tigers on Wednesday, falling 62-31. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 372nd, while the Tigers are ranked 138th).

When it comes to explaining why Rockledge lost, don't look at Jordyn Bradley. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Bradley has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Tierra Johnson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Even though they lost, Rockledge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Cocoa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gianna Conklin-Jones led the charge by going 12 for 23 on her way to 27 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Bass, who went 8 of 20 en route to 23 points and seven assists.

Rockledge's record is now 6-13. As for Cocoa, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Rockledge has already played their next contest, a 54-35 loss against Heritage on the 31st. As for Cocoa, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-7 victory against Astronaut on the 4th.
