Baseball Recap: Mission Heights Prep Has No Trouble Against Harvest Prep Academy

Mission Heights Prep won the last time they faced Harvest Prep Academy and things went their way on Friday too. The Phantoms were the clear victors by a 22-1 margin over the Eagle. The result was nothing new for the Phantoms, who have now won seven games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Ricky Luevano made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daniel Vargas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jacob Kemp was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Mission Heights Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Mission Heights Prep's win bumped their record up to 8-4-1. As for Harvest Prep Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mission Heights Prep will head out to challenge Heritage Academy Gateway at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Phantoms' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Heroes have averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season. As for Harvest Prep Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Canyon State Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagle are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
