Softball Game Preview: Spruce Mountain Phoenix vs. Madison Bulldogs

The Spruce Mountain Phoenix will venture away from home to challenge the Madison Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Spruce Mountain is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 22, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Dirigo, falling 20-3. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Phoenix's biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Spruce Mountain saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Santika Hodgkin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. Hodgkin is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Madison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 19-0 to Monmouth Academy.

Madison's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Spruce Mountain, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Everything went Spruce Mountain's way against Madison in their previous matchup back in June of 2024, as Spruce Mountain made off with a 14-4 win. Do the Phoenix have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
