Baseball Recap: Erie Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After low-scoring totals in their previous four game, Erie brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They blew past the Eureka Tornadoes 11-3 on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Red Devils as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Ty Barnhart was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Barnhart was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Barnhart wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eli Montee, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Montee a new career-high. Seth Welch also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Erie's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-9-1 and their overall record up to 4-14-1. As for Eureka, their loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Erie beat the Tornadoes by a score of 8-3 later that day.
