Softball Game Preview: Garrett Railroaders vs. New Haven Bulldogs

The Garrett Railroaders will take on the New Haven Bulldogs in a tournament on Saturday. Garrett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Garrett made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Eastside, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Railroaders fell just short of the Blazers by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Railroaders in their meetings with the Blazers: they've now lost four in a row.

Sarah DePew was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Peyton Grindstaff, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, New Haven was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 13-2 to Columbia City.

New Haven saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Low, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

New Haven's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Garrett, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Garrett has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like New Haven struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Garrett's way against New Haven in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Garrett made off with an 11-5 victory. Do the Railroaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
