Softball Recap: Nonnewaug Gets the Win

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Nonnewaug had no problem doing just that on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering Jets a 26-0 shutout. The Chiefs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Jordan Kovach and Scarlett Ivey made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Kovach tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ivey struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). At the plate, Kovach went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Ivey went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Gianna DeLorenzo was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Boisits, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI.

Nonnewaug kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 12 consecutive games.

Nonnewaug's win bumped their record up to 22-1. As for Academy of Aerospace and Engineering, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

As of now, neither Nonnewaug nor the Jets have any future games scheduled.
