Basketball Game Preview: Mission Hills Grizzlies vs. San Marcos Knights

The Mission Hills Grizzlies will venture away from home to take on the San Marcos Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Mission Hills was able to grind out a solid victory over Del Norte, taking the game 52-41. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Grizzlies.

Meanwhile, San Marcos had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.8 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They blew past the Wolverines 92-45. With the Knights ahead 44-22 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Mission Hills better focus on containing Jalen Williams and Richie Ramirez as the pair were huge in San Marcos' win. Williams went 8-for-11 en route to 20 points and seven boards, while Ramirez went 9-for-15 on his way to 18 points and seven assists. Another player making a difference was Nico Mott, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 14 points.

San Marcos was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

San Marcos pushed their record up to 24-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.8 points over those games. As for Mission Hills, their record now sits at 18-9.

Mission Hills came up short against San Marcos in their previous matchup back in January, falling 63-54. Can Mission Hills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
