Baseball Recap: Summerfield Has No Trouble Against Stockbridge

Summerfield not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19th (when they won 19-5). They blew past the Stockbridge Panthers 8-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Clark Ciacelli was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Summerfield is undefeated when Ciacelli posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jude Flowers, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Russell LaRocca was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Summerfield's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Stockbridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summerfield will head out to challenge Morenci at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Stockbridge, they will venture away from home to take on Union City at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
