Softball Game Preview: Forest Hills Rangers vs. DuBois Beavers

The Forest Hills Rangers will head out on the road to face off against the DuBois Beavers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Forest Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Forest Hills took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Penns Valley Area 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Rangers' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past Avery Smiach, who gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks to keep Penns Valley Area off the board. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Smiach.

Meanwhile, DuBois suffered their closest defeat since May 28, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of St. Marys by a score of 5-3.

Forest Hills' victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for DuBois, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Forest Hills took their victory against DuBois in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rangers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
