Recap: SouthLake Christian Academy vs. Gaston Christian Eagles
Even though SouthLake Christian Academy have not done well against the Gaston Christian Eagles recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. SouthLake Christian Academy managed a 50-45 win over Gaston Christian. For SouthLake Christian Academy, this counts as revenge for the 56-41 defeat Gaston Christian walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Gaston Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Happy Arune and Jessica Williams. Arune dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds, while Williams dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Arune scored a full 37.8% of Gaston Christian's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Gianna Mingo was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven assists.
Even though they lost, Gaston Christian were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
SouthLake Christian Academy's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6. As for Gaston Christian, they bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. SouthLake Christian Academy will take on Pine Lake Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Gaston Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Northside Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
