Baseball Recap: 11 Straight Home Wins for Etna

Etna came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Weed Cougars 18-3. The Lions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Kyle Fowle and Emmett Stacher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Fowle pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Stacher tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Fowle a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At bat, Fowle scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Stacher scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Etna is 8-1 when Stacher posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, Clayton Harris was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Ashton Elam was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Etna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive games.

Etna's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Weed, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Etna beat the Cougars by a score of 12-2 later that day.
