Softball Recap: Rice Lake Find Success

Rice Lake came out on top against Eau Claire Memorial on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Warriors walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Old Abes. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Old Abes on Tuesday, they had to take a 3-1 defeat.

Kamryn Kunz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Anderson, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Emily Saffert was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

The win got Rice Lake back to even at 5-5. As for Eau Claire Memorial, their loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

Coming up, Rice Lake is taking a road trip to challenge Chippewa Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Eau Claire Memorial, they will welcome La Crosse Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Riverhawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.11 runs per game on average), something the Old Abes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
