Football Recap: Voorheesville Comes Up Short

Voorheesville extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were beaten by Cambridge/Salem 50-7. While losing is never fun, the Blackbirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 440th, while Cambridge/Salem are ranked 135th).

As for Cambridge/Salem, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The result was nothing new for Cambridge/Salem, who have now won three matchups by 26 points or more so far this season.

Cambridge/Salem's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Myles Mattson led the charge by picking up 90 receiving yards and two TDs. Steven Yakubec was another key passer, throwing for 98 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Voorheesville will head out to square off against Hudson Falls at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Blackbirds will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 41.8 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Cambridge/Salem, they will square off against Rensselaer/Loudonville Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cambridge/Salem will be up against the Rams' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
