Baseball Game Preview: Mason County Central Spartans vs. Fremont Packers

The Mason County Central Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Fremont Packers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Mason County Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Mason County Central came up short against Montague and fell 6-3. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mason County Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drake McKay, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Kaden Ruiz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Fremont suffered their closest loss since April 12th on Tuesday. They fell just short of Ludington by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Packers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Fremont also got a good showing from Owen Vanderstelt, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. What's more, Vanderstelt gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.

Fremont has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Mason County Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
