Basketball Recap: Oakley Skates Past Wheatland-Grinnell with Ease

Oakley was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Wheatland-Grinnell on Tuesday. The Oakley Plainsmen simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks 60-31. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Plainsmen also won the last time the pair played back in January.

Oakley can attribute much of their success to Jade Beckman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Chesney Marshall, who posted 12 points and four steals.

Oakley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 24 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Despite the defeat, Wheatland-Grinnell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aliviah Ball went 6 of 14 on her way to 18 points and three steals.

The victory got Oakley back to even at 1-1. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Oakley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-42 defeat against Rawlins County on the 13th. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-21 win against Logan/Palco on the 13th.
