Basketball Preview: Academy for Classical Education Gryphons vs. Central Chargers
Academy for Classical Education hasn't had much luck against Central recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Gryphons will head out to challenge the Chargers at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Academy for Classical Education's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
On Tuesday, Academy for Classical Education ended up a good deal behind Southwest and lost 78-61. While losing is never fun, the Gryphons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while the Patriots are ranked 122nd).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jaylon Davis, who went 7-for-11 en route to 17 points and six rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Bailey, who shot 44% from the field on his way to 16 points and seven boards.
Meanwhile, Central came up short against Northeast on Tuesday and fell 78-71. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (67), the Chargers still had to take the loss.
Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Academy for Classical Education, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
Things could have been worse for Academy for Classical Education, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-51 loss to Central when the teams last played back in February of 2025.
