Softball Recap: Columbiana Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Howland, Columbiana was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Clippers have won 16 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Caitlynn Pleska was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maryn Hepler, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Landry Smith also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Columbiana lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Columbiana pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Mooney, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Columbiana will host Southeast at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cardinal Mooney, they will be taking part in a tournament against Liberty at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
