The Covington Buccs will head out on the road to face off against the Bradford Railroaders at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Covington has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Saturday, Covington came up short against Northmont and fell 16-12.
Elizabeth Coblentz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Gabba Coblentz also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Meanwhile, Bradford entered their tilt with Fairborn on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Skyhawks 13-2. While the Railroaders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Bradford got a massive performance out of Lilly Canan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Canan a new career-high. Lexi Clark was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Bradford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Bradford pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Covington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Covington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Bradford struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Covington took their victory against Bradford in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 24-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buccs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
