Baseball Game Preview: Chamberlain Storm vs. Plant City Raiders

The Chamberlain Storm will take on the Plant City Raiders in a tournament on Monday. Chamberlain comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Chamberlain saw some tournament action on Saturday. They came up short against Wharton, falling 14-4.

Chamberlain saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Ether, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Dylan Wormack also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Plant City beat Leto 5-2 on Saturday. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Brenham Hay tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Plant City let Eli Thomas and Jacob Carbaugh run wild. Thomas scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Carbaugh went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Thomas is becoming a predictor of Plant City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Drew Cothren was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Chamberlain's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Plant City, their record now sits at 8-6.

Chamberlain's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. Chamberlain has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Plant City, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Chamberlain continue to outrun the ball?

Chamberlain suffered a grim 21-4 defeat to Plant City in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Can Chamberlain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
