Baseball Game Preview: Cypress Centurions vs. Villa Park Spartans

The Cypress Centurions will challenge the Villa Park Spartans at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cypress 2.9, Villa Park 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Cypress is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Aquinas just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 2-1.

Meanwhile, Villa Park came tearing into Wednesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Mariners get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.

Jack McGuire tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aidan Young, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Villa Park's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Cypress, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.

Cypress came out on top in a nail-biter against Villa Park in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Centurions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
