Basketball Preview: Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders vs. Curtis Baptist Crusaders
Jefferson Davis Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Curtis Baptist Crusaders at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson Davis Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 281st in South Carolina, while the Crusaders are ranked 122nd in Georgia).
Last Monday, Jefferson Davis Academy came up short against the Raiders and fell 23-12.
Meanwhile, Curtis Baptist had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.2 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They took down Charleston Collegiate 41-23.
Curtis Baptist's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maci Butler, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Butler is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyla Robinson, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Jefferson Davis Academy's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.3 points per game. As for Curtis Baptist, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.
Jefferson Davis Academy was taken down by the Crusaders 54-21 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can Jefferson Davis Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
