Volleyball Recap: Southwest Extends Winning Streak to Three

Southwest waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Hurley Tigers with a sharp 3-0 victory. For the Trojans, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Southwest not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Hurley between 15 and 18 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-18, 25-15.

Southwest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia Hnem, who had 13 digs and five aces. That's the most aces Hnem has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Abi Hnem, who had nine digs and three aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Southwest was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matches.

Southwest's record is now 11-16-3. As for Hurley, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Southwest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against McDonald County on the 14th. As for Hurley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Galena on the 14th.
