Softball Game Preview: Geneva Eagles vs. Edgewood Warriors

Geneva is 2-8 against Edgewood since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Thursday, Geneva earned an 11-8 victory over Conneaut. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Claire Cafaro and Gianna Markijohn did most of the damage at the plate: Cafaro went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Markijohn went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Markijohn has posted since April 1st. Kailyn Cerjan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Edgewood had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Falcons.

Edgewood's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.8 runs. As for Geneva, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.

Geneva couldn't quite finish off Edgewood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
