Basketball Recap: Shannon Mcilroy Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Xavier College Prep

There's no place like home for Sunnyslope, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They walked away with a 59-46 win over the Xavier College Prep Gators on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Gators back in January, they had to take a 47-42 loss.

Sunnyslope's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shannon McIlroy led the charge by putting up 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That's the most boards McIlroy has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Rarrick, who earned 11 points and six steals.

When it comes to explaining why Xavier College Prep lost, don't look at Irene(Noelle) Guiamatsia. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Guiamatsia has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last seven times she's played. Sade Charles was another key player, scoring 14 points and five rebounds.

Sunnyslope's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points over those games. As for Xavier College Prep, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-7.

Looking ahead, Sunnyslope will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Desert Vista at 7:00 p.m. As for Xavier College Prep, they will venture away from home to challenge Millennium at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Millennium will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Xavier College Prep surely won't give up without a fight.
