Recap: Gila Ridge Hawks vs. La Joya Community Fighting Lobos
The Gila Ridge Hawks pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-58 to La Joya Community. Gila Ridge lost against La Joya Community in their previous head to head on Friday, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 61-58 score last time.
La Joya Community's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makuach Makuei, who scored 21 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Hale, who scored 16 points along with five assists.
Gila Ridge's loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-13. As for La Joya Community, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-11.
Gila Ridge is on the road again on Saturday and play against Apache Junction at 12:00 p.m. on January 6th. Apache Junction will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for La Joya Community, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Da Vinci at 7:00 p.m.
