Baseball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Whitwell's Winning Streak

Whitwell dropped their record down to 15-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Bank Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 5-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Whitwell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Ross, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

As for Red Bank, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games.

On Red Bank's side, Jack Barkeloo and Anyer Alvarez did most of the damage at the plate: Barkeloo got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Alvarez went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Barkeloo is becoming a predictor of the Lions' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-2 (and 9-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Tramell Davis Jr., who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Coincidentally, Whitwell and Red Bank will both be playing CSTHEA the next time they take the field. The Lions will host the Patriots at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, while the Tigers will head out to face them at 7:00 a.m. on Friday.
