Softball Game Preview: Carlmont Scots vs. Capuchino Mustangs

The Carlmont Scots are taking a road trip to square off against the Capuchino Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Carlmont turned things around against Woodside on Thursday. They skirted past the Wildcats 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Scots have posted since March 20th.

Carlmont's victory was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jordyn Sbragia, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Capuchino came tearing into Saturday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Lily Thomas was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Capuchino got a massive performance out of Dana Motroni, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Motroni a new career-high. Brianna Lopiccolo was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Capuchino pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Carlmont, their record is now 6-17.

Carlmont might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Capuchino when the teams last played back in April. Can the Scots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
