Basketball Recap: Hampton Takes a Loss

Hampton has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were dealt an 81-52 loss at the hands of the Watauga Pioneers on Thursday.

When it comes to explaining why Hampton lost, don't look at Bryce Fagan. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Nave, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Watauga's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cade Keller led the charge by going 8 of 18 on his way to 20 points. The match was Keller's third in a row with at least ten points. Josiah Railey was another key player, going 6 for 7 on his way to 17 points.

Hampton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Watauga, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Hampton will face off against Cloudland at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hampton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.5 points per game this season. As for Watauga, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 85-37 victory against North Davidson on the 27th.
