Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery County Indians vs. Powell County Pirates

The Montgomery County Indians will take on the Powell County Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Montgomery County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.2 points per game this season.

Powell County will be up against a hot Montgomery County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Montgomery County claimed a resounding 82-42 win over Mason County. With the Indians ahead 40-16 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Montgomery County relied on the efforts of Tyce Jarvis, who posted 15 points along with eight assists and eight boards, and Luke Fawns, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 19 points. The game was Fawns' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cayden Reed, who scored nine points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Montgomery County was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Meanwhile, Powell County unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 61-52 to Knott County Central.

Montgomery County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Powell County, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Montgomery County and Powell County were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2024, but Montgomery County came up empty-handed after a 65-64 loss.
