Baseball Game Preview: South Brunswick Cougars vs. Laney Buccaneers

The South Brunswick Cougars will face off against the Laney Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

South Brunswick will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Hoggard, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Vikings 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since April 16, 2024.

Meanwhile, Laney had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Trojans 3-1.

Laney saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carston Wedemeyer, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Mason Jones also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Laney's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for South Brunswick, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.
