Football Game Preview: Morse Tigers vs. Canyon Hills Rattlers

The Morse Tigers will take on the Canyon Hills Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Morse is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Coronado just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. The contest between the Tigers and the Islanders didn't end well, with the Tigers falling 30-14.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Superior Garror, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Canyon Hills waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 27-20 win over the Cardinals. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Morse better keep an eye on Ma'Kahi Fields-Cook. He was instrumental in Canyon Hills' win, rushing for 264 yards and four scores while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Those 264 rushing yards gave Fields-Cook a new career-high.

Canyon Hills was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 264 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in five consecutive games.

Canyon Hills didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Taylon Sheriff and Reece Fogg. Fogg also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine.

Morse's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Canyon Hills, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Morse has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 176.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Canyon Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 182.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Morse took their win against Canyon Hills in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 by a conclusive 52-26 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rattlers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
