Basketball Recap: Simpson Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After flying high against Wayne Academy last Tuesday, Simpson Academy came back down to earth. The Simpson Academy Cougars fell 43-32 to the Leake Academy Rebels on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Rebels are ranked third).

Leake Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jenna Allen led the charge by putting up 11 points. Another player making a difference was Caroline Cheatham, who posted six points and four steals.

Simpson Academy moved to 20-6 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Leake Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 29-1.

Simpson Academy will challenge Lamar at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Leake Academy, they will square off against East Rankin Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Leake Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season.
