Basketball Game Preview: Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears vs. Wakefield Trojans

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Wakefield are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2016, but not for long. The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears will challenge the Wakefield Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wakefield took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, everything came up roses for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge against Lutheran-Northeast as the team secured a 70-32 victory. The Bears pushed the score to 61-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 19-19 at halftime, Wakefield was not quite Homer's equal in the second half on Monday. They took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Knights are ranked 39th).

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Wakefield, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge beat Wakefield 44-36 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Laurel-Concord-Coleridge repeat their success, or does Wakefield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
