Baseball Recap: Everett Comes Up Short

Everett extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-4. They came up short against the DeWitt Panthers, falling 17-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 19-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

Everett saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kannan Rensberry, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lupe Nelson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for DeWitt, their record is now 5-6. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On DeWitt's side, Will Garza made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Garza was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Liam Stone was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Donovan Hillard, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one double.

Coming up, Everett will square off against East Lansing at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for DeWitt, they will face off against Okemos at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chiefs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
