Providence Day hasn't had much luck against Charlotte Christian recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Chargers will face off against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. Providence Day is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Providence Day will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Cary Academy on Tuesday. Providence Day never let Cary Academy get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Providence Day as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Rachel Lyons made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Hartsell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Erin Marrino was another key player, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Providence Day always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They skirted past the Cougars 13-11.
Anna Hinde was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sydney Francois, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Charlotte Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Providence Day, their record is now 8-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Providence Day has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Charlotte Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Providence Day suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Charlotte Christian in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
