Baseball Game Preview: Armwood Hawks vs. East Bay Indians

The Armwood Hawks will face off against the East Bay Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

On Thursday, Armwood didn't have quite enough to beat Sumner and fell 4-3. The Hawks have struggled against the Stingrays recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Carlos Navarro made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-3. Princeton Clark also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, East Bay made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hillsborough on Thursday. East Bay put the hurt on Hillsborough with a sharp 16-3 win. With that victory, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Cameron Cook tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because East Bay is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Connor Gavigan was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Rory Beauford was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

East Bay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Armwood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for East Bay, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.

Armwood skirted past East Bay 6-4 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Will Armwood repeat their success, or does East Bay have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
