Basketball Recap: Turner Takes a Loss

Turner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by the Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds 85-33. While losing is never fun, the Golden Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th in Kansas, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 12th in Kansas).

Several Golden Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mekhi Follick, who went 5-for-7 on his way to 11 points. Another player making a difference was Jaron Cheatom, who posted 11 points.

Jaret Sanchez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Shawnee Heights, going 12-for-17 en route to 31 points and three steals. The matchup was Sanchez's 13th in a row with at least 15 points. Jj Doby also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Turner's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Shawnee Heights, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.

Turner didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-54 loss against Leavenworth on the 24th. As for Shawnee Heights, they will square off against Seaman at 7:15 p.m. on February 28th. Shawnee Heights knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Seaman likes a good challenge.
