Football Recap: Calvert's Undefeated Season over After Eight Games

After flying high against Chopticon last Friday, Calvert came back down to earth. The Cavaliers took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patuxent Panthers on Friday. The contest marked the Cavaliers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Patuxent's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Watson, who threw for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Watson's passing game has become a key predictor of the Panthers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Antoine Wilkins helped Watson out on the ground, rushing for 129 yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Calvert fell to 7-1. As for Patuxent, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Calvert will head out on the road to square off against Huntingtown at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Cavaliers 7.8, the Hurricanes 12.5) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Patuxent, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Great Mills at 6:00 p.m.
