Softball Recap: Jim Thorpe Takes a Loss

Jim Thorpe had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it 11. They lost 24-13 to the Panther Valley Panthers. Olympians fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Panthers since on Friday.

Hannah Zacharias made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kaylyn Costello, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

As for Panther Valley, they now have a winning record of 7-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by ten runs or more this season.

On Panther Valley's side, Morgan O'Brien was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs O'Brien has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla McQuillen, who went 4-for-6 with three stolen bases, five runs, and three RBI.

Coming up, Jim Thorpe will venture away from home to challenge Palmerton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Panther Valley, they will host Shenandoah Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.57 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
